# Zanesville & Western Scenic Railroad (ZWSR)

## Overview

The Zanesville and Western Scenic Railroad (ZWSR) is a volunteer-operated tourist railroad in Perry County, Ohio. It provides scenic 40-minute round-trip train rides on the Glass Rock Spur, a historic rail line running through woods and farmland. Both open-air and indoor coach seating are available. The railroad is pet-friendly.

## Season

The railroad operates weekends from August through October (12:00 PM - 4:00 PM, trains depart on the hour), with additional dates in November and December for special events. Arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled departure.

### August
- **Opening Weekend** (Aug 1-2): First rides of the season. 12-4 PM.
- **Dog Daze of Summer** (Aug 8-9): Bring your dog aboard for a scenic ride. 12-4 PM.
- **Back to School Daze** (Aug 15-16): Kids 13 and under ride free. 12-4 PM.
- Regular weekend (Aug 22-23): 12-4 PM.
- **Hobo Camp** (Aug 29-30): Wienies, beans, and photo ops with friendly hobos. 12-4 PM.

### September
- **Family Weekend** (Sep 5-6): Bring your own picnic, free water provided. 12-4 PM.
- **Sip & Rail Wine Tasting** (Sep 11, 12, 18, 19): Evening train ride with wine tasting and charcuterie by Vinberige Vineyards. 6-8 PM. Ages 21+ only. $50/person or $95 for two.
- Regular weekends (Sep 12-13, 19-20): Limited hours, 12-2 PM on Saturdays.
- **Train Robbery Show** (Sep 26-27): Old-time 1800s train robbery reenactment with horses and masked robbers. Inside seating only. 12-4 PM.

### October
- **Pumpkin Patch Express** (Oct 3-4, 10-11, 17-18, 24-25): 40-minute train ride through fall scenery to the pumpkin patch. 12-4 PM.

### November
- **A Coal Miner's Story** (Nov 8): Journey through Ohio's coal mining history with historian Dave Adair. Inside seating only. 12-4 PM.
- **Veterans Day** (Nov 14): Veterans ride free. 12-4 PM.

### December
- **Santa Train** (Dec 5-6, 12-13, 19-20): Festive train ride with Santa, treats, and gifts. Bring a new unwrapped toy or food donation for a discount. 1-6 PM.

- Wine Tasting: $50/person or $95 for two (21+ only)
- Santa Train: $10 or $7 with donation (14+), $7 or $4 with donation (3-13)

## Group Events

ZWSR accommodates group events including school groups, birthday parties, church groups, family outings, weddings, retirement parties, and family reunions. Contact the railroad for group pricing.

## Accessibility

A ramp accommodates most walkers. Wheelchair access is limited due to narrow aisles. Contact ZWSR with specific accessibility needs. A portable restroom is available on the boarding platform.

## Seating

Outside seating: bench seats. Inside seating: padded vintage coach seats. Some events are inside seating only (noted above).

## Volunteering

Volunteer opportunities include conductor, engineer, train guide, and ticket agent.
